Inis Meáin – the least developed of the Aran islands – is actually home to one of Ireland’s most sought after boutique hotels, which has just five luxury suites and is booked out until 2018.
Even though the hotel is small, it’s been listed as one of “The top 10 Architectural Retreats in the world”, and the suites themselves are stunning.
Each suite comes with bicycles, binoculars ( 10m long continuous windows provide an uninterrupted view of the island and Galway Bay, stretching from the Connemara Mountains to Black Head in the Burren) and luxe Aveda toiletries.
Breakfast comes in a special teak box, and includes freshly baked breads, our own boiled eggs, homemade muesli, fresh fruit, glenisk yoghurt, karmine fruit juice, cured meat and fish, soft cheese and a sweet element for elevenses.
A stay here will set you back €792 for a two-night stay in July or August – or €1,056 for a larger 130sq m suite, a price people clearly have no problem paying for the chance to stay in such a unique setting.
