This week I had the pleasure of working remotely in Belfast in Northern Ireland. I ate and drank myself around the city for a few days. It's hard not to notice that there's a trendy bar or restaurant at every corner you turn here. The food is incredible, the cocktails to die for and coffee that rivals some of the best cafes in Europe. There's also plenty to see and do in Northern Ireland in general and while staying in a hotel can be risk free - going in search of a great Airbnb listing is highly recommended. You have the freedom of your own time, your own space and some of the most spectacular settings. So here are a handful of the best listings (including Rory McIlroy's former home) in Northern Ireland to help inspire you to take a trip:
Old Stone Mill €223 per night
This restored stone mill sleeps up to 8 people and is surrounded by incredible gardens. This is a perfect base for those visiting Northern Ireland. Located only 20 minutes from Belfast International Airport, 40 minutes from Belfast George Best Airport, or 30 minutes from both Sea Ports you'll have no trouble getting here. Equally, once here you will have no issues getting to Belfast City Centre, City of Derry or The Giants Causeway.
Luxury Apartment €139 per night
This 4th floor luxury apartment overlooks the famous shipping yard where the Titanic was built. It's a two minute walk to the number one tourist attraction in Northern Ireland - the Titanic Museum and 5 minutes away from Belfast city centre.
Rural Retreat €97 per night
This stunning modern cottage is situated overlooking Lough Begg in Co. Antrim. It would make the perfect retreat for anyone looking to get some alone time and is only a 30 minute drive from Belfast if you decide to head into the hustle and bustle of the city.
4 Bedroom Apartment €209 per night
This apartment sleeps up to 8 people and is situated super-close to Queens Uni in South Belfast. There are tonnes of hipster eateries to choose from in this area. You're only 5 minutes in a cab to the city centre from here. At €209 per night you'd be saving a huge amount of cash renting out this listing rather than getting hotel rooms.
Strand Lodge €278 per night
If you can manage to block out the gross coloured walls then you'll be sleeping in an absolute gem. Sleeps 10 people so is perfect for an anniversary bash or for a group of mates to get away for a few nights. The incredible views and surroundings mean you'll be spoilt for choice if you're going for a stroll or hike.
Drum Gatelodge €150
This quaint property is located so close to the Giant's Causeway and the Bushmills distillery. You could just end up staying put though for the entire stay because it's so cosy and private. Perfect for a romantic getaway.
Historic Eco-House €275 per night
This huge 250 year old house on the magical Inishcoo Island has been charmingly restored with eco-technology throughout and sleeps up to 20 guests. Nestled right beside superb beaches you'll never get bored - with plenty of activities at hand. Donegal airport is only 15 minutes away by car too.
Georgian Townhouse €277 per night
This flawless listing sits in the heart of Enniskillen in county Fermanagh. If you're looking for luxury - then this is it. It sleeps up to 6 people and in its former years, 42 Willoughby Place was used as a boarding house for schoolboys at Portora Royal School, where many notable men and literary greats were educated, including Oscar Wilde and Nobel Laureate winner Samuel Beckett. Almost as impressive as the plush interior.
Gleann Leithin Cottage €49 per night
Not technically Northern Ireland, but this gorgeous little cottage in the north of the island was too hard to leave out. An honourable mention to this perfect retreat. Ideal for those of you who need to get away from the hustle and bustle of the modern world to relax in fairytale surroundings with a good book and friendly local wildlife. At fifty quid a night, its an absolute steal.
The Boathouse €244 per night
The Boathouse on Sketrick Island is a wonderful place to relax, right on the shores of Strangford Lough. For the visiting yachtsman there is a deep water mooring in front of the house, available by prior arrangement. The area is also hugely popular with cyclists because of the spectacular views and challenging cycling along beautiful country roads. The perfect listing for the great outdoorsman.
Robinhall House €1949 per night
Robinhall House is a beautiful, modern property set in the heart of Co.Down in Northern Ireland. This unique property was formerly home to professional golfer Rory McIlroy, who created his very own 'World Class' championship golf practice facility on site. 'Nuff said.
