WATCH: Niall Horan translates Irish slang for the masses

Sarah Finnan

You can’t get more Irish than Niall Horan giving a rundown of Irish slang, now can you?

In a video filmed by US magazine Vanity Fair, everyone’s favourite Directioner dissects the best of Irish slang, explaining words like “sham”, “banjaxed”, “oul wan” and “gammy”.

What a beautiful language we have.

Hailing from Mullingar, Niall is a self-confessed “bogger” and so is probably the best man for the job to be fair.

Admitting himself that some of the phrases are “ridiculous”, Niall says “that was interesting. I actually didn’t realise how ridiculous we are.

“But having read them and seeing them in bold capitals I now know that we are absolutely insane”.

I guess having to explain the term “flute” to someone else really puts it in perspective.
