Coffee Confessions: Nine Coffee Spots to try in Waterford this weekend

Lynda Keogh

According to Google – today is apparently International Coffee Day. Where my caffeine queens at?!

So, I thought that this would be a perfect time to share my fave spots in The Déise to grab a coffee. Is there anything better than that beautiful golden liquid? No, there really isn’t – it makes me an actual human. If you know me, you know that Waterford is my second home so I thought why not share my fave spots in Waterford to grab a little caffeinated pick-me-up.

1.  Crough Coffee

Honestly, don’t even know what is the proper pronunciation of this spot. C-ruff? C-r-e-w? C-r-o? Who knows really! (Please forgive me @Crough) All you need to know is that this is the place to grab a coffee and a cake. Channel your inner Roz and stop by after a massive hike up Coumshingaun (or just to the lake…). Crough is literally 3 minutes down the road and is very much a welcome sight after being such an outdoorsy hun.

2. Molly’s

Molly’s is the cutest spot with possibly the best views of the beach in whole of Tramore. These views coupled with banging coffee is a perfect way to start your day or your weekend. They also do an amaziiiing hot chocolate with whipped cream if you are that way inclined. Fresh sea air, good vibes and even better coffee.

3. Black Friars Coffee

Doing a few bits in town and looking for a delish coffee and a little snack? Black Friars should be on your list. Take a few and sit on their terrace and you’ll quickly be back in the shopping mind-frame and ready to face Penneys.

4. Trade Waterford

The guys in Trade really know their coffee – so you are guaranteed the good stuff! If you’re lucky you’ll be able to grab a seat outside and bask in the glory of the crisp October weather. It is essential to get a Trade Tart if you go here, the flavours change all the time – but this just means that you have to get one every.single.time. It’s a tough life really.

5. Seagull Bakery Tramore

If it’s good enough for Paul Mescal – by god it’s good enough for us. These guys are the kings and queens of sourdough, it’s pretty impossible to leave without a loaf under the arm. In saying this, my ultimate sweet tooth fave is their twice baked almond croissant (*drool*) with an americano coffee. Yaaaas.

6. Grow HQ

Grow HQ is a Waterford solid at this stage, surely you’ve tried it right? Locally sourced ingredients, this is a cafe with morals. This coupled with a bit of caffeine you will leave here feeling like a better person. If the weather co-operates, it is so lovely to sit out and enjoy their courtyard with your cuppa in hand.

7. Under the Clock House

Small but mighty, this is a teeny spot that you don’t want to walk past. Pick up a whopper coffee and a tasty toastie – then you’re ready to get the day going. Dare you to try next time you’re down around the quays.

8. Coach House Coffee

The Coach House is like a gift from the highest heavens when you’ve cycled god-only-knows how many miles on The Waterford Greenway. You (and your sore bum) will be so grateful for a little sit down and a coffee.

9. Flour and Water Dungarvan

Flour and Water should be on your list if you are out towards Dungarvan. Stroll down and get yourself a cup of coffee, or even a delish hot chocolate and a pastry. Cinnamon scrolls, salted caramel choux buns or a sourdough seeded rye loaf – you name it they have it!
