Batten down the hatches because a miserable end to the week is expected.
There is the potential for thunder and hail in parts of Ireland, while the nights will become noticeably cooler as winter approaches.
Met Eireann predict that the worst of the weather will be experienced in Munster and Connacht, while Leinster and Ulster will escape with just isolated showers.
“Showers or bands of showery rain already in the west and south will become widespread this afternoon,” a Met Eireann spokesperson said of Thursday. “Many of the showers will be heavy, with a risk of hail and thunder.
“Top temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees. Breezy or blustery at times today, in mostly moderate to fresh southerly winds, but gusty near coasts and around showers.”

Temperatures are set to drop overnight and could potentially get as low as two degrees, while the wet weather will continue into Friday.
Speaking about what can be expected on Thursday evening, the national forecaster said: “Mainly dry over Leinster and Ulster apart from an isolated shower. Showers will continue over parts of Munster and Connacht and some of the showers heavy with an ongoing risk of hail and thunder there.
“The showers will become more widespread again by morning. Lows of two to eight degrees in light to moderate southerly or variable breezes, but fresh to strong and gusty near south and southwest coasts. Some mist and fog patches likely where winds fall light.
“Tomorrow Friday will be another showery day, especially across central and southern parts of the country. Many of the showers will again be heavy with a risk of hail and thunder, and potentially prolonged, due to the mainly light and variable breezes. Some drier and brighter interludes will also occur, though, these at their best in the north of the country. Top temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees.”
