10 food stalls you need to try at Marina Market this weekend

Fiona Frawley

Set in the old Ford industrial buildings along the River Lee, Marina Market has quickly become a staple of the Cork foodie scene.

Whether you’re feeling fragile after a few socials the night before, or smugly fresh after your 6am 10k run, this market has a food stall, truck or container for you. Here are some we’d recommend hitting up if you’re in the city this weekend:

Taylors Latkes

The sambos at Taylors are breakfast in its fully evolved form. Cheese? Good. Bacon? Good? Egg (runny)? Good. Throw a latke on top (it’s like a hash brown but even better) and prepare for your world to be rocked.

Brendan’s Burritos

Maybe you’ve never thought of putting black pudding or potato in a burrito, but Brendan has. And wow. It’s the combo you didn’t know you needed, but once you’ve had it it’s hard to look back.

Hansum Chicken

Simplicity is king with these guys. Hansum have honed in on chicken (as you’ll probably guess by the giant rooster painted on their container) and perfected it. Opt for the mighty feed of a chicken ciabatta and wedges, or pick up a delish full rotisserie bird to take home. It’s win-win tbh.

Lekker

This is one for the meaty/cheesy/potato lovers among us. Crispy goose fat potatoes smothered with melty raclette cheese and spicy chorizo? With burnt marshmallows and poffertjes (they’re like mini spongy pancakes) for dessert? Sign us up.

Messy Buns Ireland

We could scroll through the Messy Buns Insta feed forever. Who knew how many ways there were to elevate the humble fairy bun? Messy Buns did, and they won’t stop until they’ve discovered them all. They’ve got s’mores buns, Jammie Dodger buns, even peach bellini buns. It’s creative genius you can eat.

Dinky Donuts

I mean, they’re donuts and they’re dinky, do you really need to hear more? Lots of classic crowd pleaser flavours like sugar, cinnamon sugar and warm chocolate, and the Oreo ones look pretty delish too.

Crunchy Hut

One for the cereal lovers! Crunchy hut is all about balance with healthy options like smoothie bowls topped with granola and fruit, but also Lucky Charms, Oreo O’s and pretty much any other sugary breakfast confectionary you can think of. The dream.

Poulet-Vous

Besides having an iconic name, this place has some of the crispiest, sauciest, most flavoursome looking chicken we ever did see.

Young Plant

Fresh juices, flavoursome salads and all the other good things that come from young plants! All the micro greens used in the dishes are grown out of the actual container in the market – it doesn’t get much fresher than that.

Prátaí

These guys have reimagined the humble spud for meat lovers and vegans alike – check out the vegan loaded fries with plant based chilli, cheese and basil mayo! No potato lover left behind.

Marina Market is open seven days a week, with opening hours varying for each stall. Parking is available on site but you’re also encouraged to walk, cycle or jog using the new Blackrock-City greenway. And if you’re in the mood for a coffee after whatever food you go for, Guji is your only man – more on that here.
