This Cork Spot Has Just Been Named The Best Bar In Ireland

James Fenton

Given that they spend the whole year wetting the whistles of the nation, it’s nice for the bars of Ireland to get some recognition once in a while.

That’s what happened last night when the annual Bar Of The Year Awards took place at Dublin’s Clayton Hotel. There were big winners from all over the country, with notable prizes such as City Bar Of The Year going to Café En Seine in Dublin and Trad Bar Of The Year going to Lowry’s in Galway.

While there are plenty of venues celebrating today, Cask in Cork will perhaps be the happiest after it took home the overall Bar Of The Year award. The MacCurtain Street spot is well-known for its original cocktails and multi-cultural small plates and it seems the hard work of its team hasn’t gone unnoticed by the experts.

If you’ve never been before, this is your excuse to get down and try Cask out for yourself. A full list of last night’s winners can be found here.
