25 Passengers Evacuated After Fire Breaks Out On Bus

James Fenton

Emergency services in Limerick have dealt with a bus which caught fire this afternoon.

Three units from Limerick City Fire and Rescue service attended the scene on Clare Street after a call just after 1pm.

According to the Limerick Leader, the bus was driving from Nenagh to Arthur’s Quay in the city when smoke and flames began emerging from the engine at the rear of the bus.

Quick-thinking bus driver Richard Last told the publication:

“The electrics just went and I pressed the button to open the door and it didn’t work so I opened the emergency door and just got them out (the passengers) as quick as I could.

“It was on fire at back. When I open the boot I could see the flames so I sprayed the stuff on top and underneath.”

25 people were safely evacuated from the bus and the blaze has now been dealt with.
