A Man In His 70’s Has Been Arrested After Cannabis Grow House In Carlow Catches Fire

An elderly man in his 70’s was arrested yesterday after a house in Rathvilly, Co Carlow caught fire, causing a cannabis grow house to be uncovered.

At 9.30am, emergency services attended a fire at a house, but after extinguishing the flames, Gardaí discovered a grow house with an estimated 250 cannabis plants.

A man was arrested at the scene and was detained at Carlow Garda Station under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

A second man is being sought after escaping through the rear of the property.

This is the second discovery in recent days in the Carlow area with a combined value of €560,000 worth of cannabis plants being seized.
