Anything to do with fresh oysters is the dream in our eyes, so the news that Cork’s forgotten gem, The Oyster Tavern, is re-opening in June (the Bank Holiday weekend FYI) with a dedicated oyster bar and restaurant is so exciting.
The makeover of the 18th century-founded Oyster Tavern has been taken on by renowned restaurateur Alan Clancy who has 37 Dawson St, House, and The Ivy on his hands.
He’s putting in a whopping €1.5m into the tavern’s reboot which will restore many of the building’s original features and classic mirrors, and if his other ventures are anything to go by then we have a feeling it’s going to be a beaut.
Situated right beside the English Market is another bonus for the bar, as there are plans for much of the food produce to be sourced from the market’s top-class traders.
“I’m very pleased to be involved in the Oyster,,” said Mr Clancy yesterday to the Irish Examiner. “It’s in a great development, and I believe there’s exciting times ahead for the city centre.
“It’s up and coming now once more.”
The Oyster Tavern’s reopening is part of Cork city centre’s €50m Capitol shops, office and bar development.
