U2 and Garth Brooks are reportedly being head-hunted to play in Cork from next year.

The Independent.ie report that Pairc Uí Chaoimh has undergone a massive €70m makeover and in May 2018, it could play host to some of the world’s biggest music acts.

The Chairman of the Stadium Building Committee, John Mullins, admitted they couldn’t stage any high-profile gigs this summer due to their construction schedule but he did confirm that major concerts will definitely be staged there from next year.

Speaking to RedFM’s new Red Business Show, he said the new-look stadium was purposely designed to stage major concerts.

“Now that we are closer to the stadium opening which is going to be at the end of June, we are confident we can provide promoters like Aiken and Desmond (MCD) what they want in terms of the ergonomics of the stadium.”

“We will definitely have concerts next summer, starting in all likelihood in May. So watch this space.”
