Conor McGregor Has Just Launched His Own Whiskey And We’re Intrigued

Éadaoin Fitzmaurice

It seems Mr McGregor is taking on the world, bit by bit.

His newest project? Well, he’s tapping into the drinks industry.

The MMA Fighter launched his brand new whiskey Proper No. Twelve Irish Whiskey today in Ireland and the US.

The iconic athlete is the founder, chairman and majority owner of the company, which he hopes to expand on in the coming year.

He has been working on the whiskey the last few years, his main aim being to create a spirit that would show his pride in his country and his love for whiskey. He paired up with David Elder, esteemed master distiller, previously of Guinness, and together they took painstaking measures to bring the whiskey to fruition.

Conor said:

“We created close to one hundred blends and ultimately selected what we knew was the one and only proper whiskey blend. We took the time to develop an incredible whiskey and I’m excited to share it with the world,”

The golden grain and single malt whiskey has hints of vanilla, honey and toasted wood.

So where did the name come from?

Conor explained that he wanted to pay tribute to his hometown:

“I come from a place called Crumlin, in Dublin 12. It’s a place dear to my heart. It’s where I learned how to fight; it made me who I am today. It’s a place I’m still very much a part of every single day of my life. So, that’s where the name came from. It’s proper Irish whiskey and twelve is my hometown,”

The profit from the drink is also being put to a good cause. The company has committed to donate $5 for every case sold to local first responder organizations/charities, up to $1 million annually.

Proximo has been named the global distribution partner for Ireland this month.

We are intrigued and cannot wait to try it!
