A Campaign Celebrating Ireland’s Diverse Society Has Been Launched

James Fenton

In February of this year, Úna-Minh Caomhánach from Kerry shocked her Twitter followers by posting a drawing which depicted the appalling abuse she has experienced on a daily basis in Ireland:

Úna was born in Vietnam in 1991 but was adopted and taken to Kerry. She is a Gaeilgeoir and possesses an Irish passport and an Irish birth cert.

She has now launched a campaign under the hashtag #weareirish in a bid to recognise that Irishness is a lot more than being born in the country and having fair skin.

So far, the post has attracted a lot of attention and #weareirish is now trending in Dublin.

Fair play to Úna for highlighting such an important issue and one which needs to be wiped out as soon as possible. We’re sure her mammy is very proud!
