Alana Laverty

A bomb was made safe by army bomb squad during the early hours of this morning at Limerick City’s main Garda Station on Henry Street.

The homemade explosive was found within a car that had earlier been impounded as part of an investigation, according to the Limerick Post.

Members of the Divisional Drugs Unit stopped the vehicle, questioned and arrested the male driver before bringing him to the Henry Street station. The car was impounded for a more detailed search, which led to the discovery of the explosive.

Gardaí alerted the bomb squad and the device was made safe shortly after their arrival.

The man remains in Garda custody.
