One Limerick bus driver has been hailed as a hero after he saved a hedgehog on his bus route yesterday.

The Limerick Leader reports that the Citylink driver pulled over in Castletroy to save the tiny animal, who was struggling to mount the kerb at the side of the road.

According to Twitter user @mariaflan, the driver hopped out, lovingly scooped up the little creature, and set him back down in a safer hedge - away from the busy road.

The anonymous Citylink driver was transporting passengers from Limerick to Dublin Airport when he stopped the bus to save the little animal.
