Lú Festival of Light will illuminate Drogheda this Halloween

Halloween in Drogheda will be, as the kids say, lit.

The Lú Festival of Light is coming to Drogheda this Halloween and organisers promise lots of fun for all the family as historic buildings around Louth get a new lease of life.

From October 27th – 31st and November 2nd – 4th this free-to-attend festival will enchant the county with light and magic as myths and legends get brought to life right before your eyes.

Over eight days, stunning illuminations will transform Drogheda’s Old Abbey, St Peters Church, St Dominic’s Bridge, the former Methodist Church garden and St Laurence’s Gate using the latest digital technology, projection, sound and animation to weave a compelling tale of Ireland’s mythological past.

Spectacular projections will adorn intricate stonework around Drogheda while telling the legendary tales of heroic warriors, mythical creatures, and ethereal landscapes.

But it’s not just beautiful images that you can take in, you’ll hear the stories of our nation’s legends as scripts written by an Irish company – Visual Spectrum – and Anthony Murphy of Mythical Ireland will reveal all the magic.

The animation and live score have been designed and created by Visual Spectrum using incredible technology to map the buildings and create an audio-visual spectacle digitally.

There’s so much more to look forward to as the Halloween magic will extend to the streets as stilt walkers, face painters and fire breathers all put on performances.

And if all the excitement wears you out, there will be cafes, bars and restaurants in the area open late so you can recharge with a rest and something to eat.

The Lú Festival of Light is an initiative of Louth County Council in partnership with Love Drogheda BIDS. Fáilte Ireland supports the event and is partly funded under the Fáilte Ireland Urban Animation Scheme.
