Andrew Lloyd Webber has extended the hand of friendship to Paul Mescal, inviting him to join him in a Phantom of the Opera singalong.
Paul Mescal is the in-demand star of the moment, with everyone grappling to get a piece of the Normal People actor. A weird time for everyone, Paul has been coming to terms with his newfound fame alone over in his house in London… keeping busy with appearances on every talk show and podcast you can think of – including The Graham Norton Show, The Late Late Show with James Corden and the I’m Grand Mam Podcast to name but a few.
Not forgetting his video chat with Ryan Tubridy on our own Late Late Show earlier this month, in which he spoke about everything from his take on the controversy surrounding the series’ sex scenes to his first foray into acting in his secondary school’s musical. Revealing that he played “the big man himself”, Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera, it seems that the intel has trickled back to Andrew Lloyd Webber who wrote the music for the hit show.
Subsequently reaching out to Paul on Twitter, the famous English composer wrote:
“Hi Paul! I heard that you are part of the Phantom alumni, fancy a singalong? – ALW”
@mescal_paul Hi Paul! I heard that you are part of the Phantom alumni, fancy a singalong? – ALW

Fans were quick to encourage Paul to say yes in the comments (who responded with a simple “OMG is this a real thing”), dubbing the invitation “well deserved”. Having already proven himself to be a talented actor, Paul has since shown that he has the vocal abilities to match, impressing not only Andrew Lloyd Webber but Sia as well after he shared a cover of her song Chandelier.
Neither party has officially sealed the deal as of yet but it’s a pairing we approve wholeheartedly of. As to where to find footage of Paul’s first portrayal of Phantom, Tubs was quick to ask if footage exists and apparently it does though Paul doesn’t encourage people to go searching for it. Does that sound like a challenge?!
