Taoiseach Enda Kenny has, just today, held a 23-minute meeting with Pope Francis in the Vatican.
The meeting was requested several weeks ago following the invitation to the pope by the Irish Catholic Bishops’ Conference, enquiring about a potential visit to Ireland for the World Meeting of Families in two years’ time.

And during this 23-minute chat – an agreement was come to.

The last Pontiff to travel to Ireland was Pope John Paul II in 1979, where he made the incredibly famous ‘People of Ireland, I love you’ speech in Phoenix Park.
