‘He’s doing a grand job’ – Daniel O’Donnell backs Patrick Kielty as Late Late host

The seal of approval we all dream of.

With reports of a drop in viewers and mixed response to guest lineups as Patrick Kielty settles into Late Late hosting duties, Daniel O’Donnell has advised naysayers to “leave him alone and get on with it,” adding that he thinks Kielty is “doing great”.

Speaking at the Hidden Hearing Heroes Awards in Dublin, the Donegal native and undisputed national treasure said he got home from touring just in time to catch the Late Late’s annual country special, and that Kielty is doing a “grand job”.

As reported by the Irish Mirror, Daniel said of the Late Late’s new host:

“He loves his country music. I think it is in his family background, his father was involved in his promoting, so there is a history of it there.

“I think he is doing a grand job. They should leave him alone and get on with it, I think he is doing great”.

And in the world of country music, I think we can all collectively agree that what Daniel says goes.

The Late Late Show continues tonight on RTÉ One from 9:35pm. In the meantime, you can watch TikTok sensation Garron Noone introducing Kielty to the wonders of a spice bag with prawn crackers sprinkled on top “like croutons” below.
