Eddie Murphy has announced that a long-awaited sequel to the cult classic Coming To America is on the way, over 30 years after the original was released.
The comedian and actor hasn’t officially confirmed whether he will be reprising his infamous role as Prince Akeem, though the plot is said to centre around all of the original characters.
The original 1988 film saw Prince Akeem travelling from the fictional country of Zamunda to Queens, New York, in order to try and find his queen.
This time around, the plot will reportedly see him returning to New York in search of his long-lost son to tell him he’s the heir to the throne.
Murphy said in a statement, “After many years of anticipation, I’m thrilled that Coming to America 2 is officially moving forward.
“We’ve assembled a great team that will be led by Craig Brewer, who just did an amazing job on Dolemite, and I’m looking forward to bringing all these classic and beloved characters back to the big screen.”
