Greatest Showman director working on new Robbie Williams biopic

Robbie Williams

A new Robbie Williams biopic is in the works, brought to us by the same director behind The Greatest Showman.

Robbie Williams is the inspiration behind a new movie coming later this year. Directed by Michael Gracey – the same man behind The Greatest Showman – the upcoming movie is described as a “fantastical coming-of-age story” about Williams’ unlikely rise to fame.

Due to begin production later this year, the movie is titled Better Man and is based on the life and career of the former Take That singer. Set to include many of the performer’s most popular hits, it’s not yet known who will play Robbie in the flick with Gracey telling Deadline:

“As for how we represent Robbie in the film, that bit is top secret. I want to do this in a really original way.

“I remember going to the cinema as a kid and there were films that blew me away and made me say as I sat there in the cinema, ‘I’ve never seen this before.’ I just want the audience to have that feeling. It’s so important when they watch this story, and look at the screen, that they literally think, I’ve never seen this before.

“All I can say is the approach is top secret, but the goal is to generate that feeling I just described. It’s this fantastical story, and I want to represent it in its harsh reality all the way to these moments of pure fantasy.”

Describing Robbie as that relatable “Everyman”, who just dreamed big and followed those dreams until they were a reality, Gracey said that the film will explore both the highs and lows of Williams’ life – outlining how his past experiences helped mould him into the person he is today.
