Irish coffee taste-testers wanted in New York

Sarah Finnan

Irish coffee experts wanted in New York but, remarkably, they don’t want Irish people!

Reservations.com is looking for someone to travel to New York and sample the best Irish coffees the city has to offer.

And they’ll pay you for your troubles.

According to their website: “One of the quintessential pick-me-ups during the cold and chaos of the holidays is a comforting Irish coffee.” So very true.

On the hunt for an official Irish coffee taste-tester, the successful candidate will be tasked with ordering 1-2 Irish coffees at eight different establishments – accompanied by a sweet treat, because what’s one without the other?

You’ll then have to write a 300-word review of each visit, commenting on atmosphere, ambience, flavour etc.

And for the matter of payment? Well, you’ll be given $500, the equivalent of around €450, to spend on food and drinks along with $1,500 (just over €1,300) to cover travel and writing expenses.

Sorry, can you say DREAM JOB?

Drinking Irish coffees while floating about NYC during the most magical time of the year…I can think of nothing better.

To apply, all you have to do is write a 150/200-word description of your favourite seasonal drink and setting. That’s it.

Applications opened yesterday and will be accepted until December 1st with the winner announced on December 2nd. Over 21s only.

But for the most unbelievable part…only US citizens need apply.

Now, correct me if I’m wrong, but surely an Irish person would be the best judge of an IRISH coffee?

So close yet so far. Better luck next time Paddies.
