Irish newspaper wins the internet with their description of Trump as a ‘west Clare hotelier’

West Clare hotelier

This Irish newspaper has just earned themselves a gold star for their coverage of the presidential campaign – winning hearts with their article breaking the news that ‘West Clare hotelier’ Donald Trump had lost the election.

Notorious for many reasons, Donald Trump is generally referred to under three main job titles: former President of the United States, businessman or TV personality.

Credit where credit is due though and one Irish newspaper has won the internet over with their description of the US mogul as a “West Clare hotelier”. Reporting on the news that the votes had been counted and Trump had, in fact, lost the election (despite claims that he won “by a lot!”), the Clare Echo published an article with the headline:

“West Clare hotelier loses out in US Presidential election.”

A thoroughly accurate description, the article quickly went viral online with one onlooker joking:

“We do bring them down to size in Clare.”

Even grabbing the attention of fellow journalists across the pond, John Cassidy – a writer at The New Yorker – retweeted the article, describing it as “top Irish wit”.

Commending the team for “finding the local angle”, I think it’s fair to say that the Clare Echo deserves a round of applause for that one.
