Another Mamma Mia movie? Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!
It looks like a third Mamma Mia movie could be on the cards after Judy Craymer - producer of the previous two Mamma Mia movies - said that they're "meant to be a trilogy".
Saying that Universal would definitely like her to do it, Craymer told the Daily Mail:
"I think one day there will be another film, because there's meant to be a trilogy, you see."
This comes after news that ABBA will be releasing new music later this year with Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus already having penned four new numbers for the virtual concert they've planned with Agnetha Faltskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad. As for how plans for the third movie are coming? According to Craymer:
"I was meant to have been getting on with that, in my head, during these months. But then I got hit with Covid fog."
Haven't we all?
Based on an original stage musical also created by Craymer, the first Mamma Mia movie was released back in 2008 and saw Meryl Streep step into the role of Donna Sheridan, starring alongside Amanda Seyfried as her daughter Sophie. Set to some of ABBA's best-known hits, the movie tells the story of how bride-to-be Sophie invites three different men to her wedding in the hopes of finding out which one is her father.
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again followed ten years after the first movie's release - both a prequel and a sequel, the movie relies on flashbacks to tell the story of both the past and the present Starring Lily James as a young Donna, with much of the original cast returning for the second film - along with musical icon Cher who plays Donna's mother.
It's yet unclear what the third movie will focus on though with the second movie ending with news of Sophie's pregnancy perhaps there's scope for further exploration there. Whatever the plot, we're already sold.
