“I’m not throwing my hat into the ring to be considered.”

Miriam O’Callaghan is setting the record straight around those rumours that she could be the next host of The Late Late Show. RTÉ confirmed that Ryan Tubridy would be leaving The Late Late Show last week; his last show will air in May.

The Prime Time presenter took to Twitter to release a lengthy statement that while she found the speculationvery flattering“, there’s no truth to it as she’s not putting herself up for consideration.

Miriam O’Callaghan sets the record straight

O’Callaghan’s announcement read as follows:

“The Late Late Show is an incredible programme. It’s not just the jewell in the crown of Irish broadcasting, it’s also an institution stitched into the fabric of Irish life. Ryan has done a superb job presenting it for the past 14 years.

Although the speculation about me being one of the favourites to take over the Late Late Show is very flattering, that won’t be happening as I’m not throwing my hat into the ring to be considered.

I love what I do too much on Prime Time to leave it, and what we do in current affairs as a team really matters and can actually change lives. It’s what I love doing most of all as a broadcast journalist, and I’m not prepared to give that up for any show.”

While we’re disappointed to hear she won’t be taking over, Prime Time watchers will be impressed and grateful for her commitment to the show.

So we’ll just have to keep guessing as to who will be taking up the mantle from Tubridy.
