The price increase will vary depending on which package you’re subscribed to.
If there is one thing that most people will agree got them through different stages of the restrictions and lockdown, they’d more than likely say it was Netflix.
Since February this year, the service provided us The Queen’s Gambit, Ratched, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Emily In Paris, The Tiger King, Extraction, Da 5 Bloods, I’m Thinking of Ending Things, Enola Holmes, The Trial of the Chicago 7, Rebecca, Mank, and loads more besides that become the centre of many, many WhatsApp conversations.
And that is only mentioning their own original programming and movies, so it should come as no real surprise that the streaming service have announced their third price increase in three years.
At the time of writing, the three-tiered pricing system is as follows:
- Basic package, access to the Netflix library on one screen or device, €7.99
- Standard package, access to the library on two screens or devices simultaneously, €11.99
- Premium package, access to the library on four screens or devices simultaneously, €15.99
Current subscribers will be given one-month’s notice via email and on the Netflix app itself about the upcoming change in prices, while new members will begin at the newly set prices, which are as follows:
- Basic package, access to the Netflix library on one screen or device, €7.99
- Standard package, access to the library on two screens or devices simultaneously, €12.99 (an increase of €1)
- Premium package, access to the library on four screens or devices simultaneously, €17.99 (an increase of €2)
A spokesperson for Netflix stated that the UK and Ireland is the second most important market globally in terms of production, with $1 billion (€820 million) being spent on content in 2020 alone.
The spokesperson continued: “Our price change reflects the significant investments we’ve made in new TV shows and films, as well as improvements to our product. Our basic membership will remain at the same price ensuring as many people as possible can enjoy our content.”
