This Dark Travel Show Is Your Essential Saturday Night Netflix Binge

seank

We feckin’ love a good travel show around here.

Recently we fell in love with Netflix’s heartwarming and hilarious Somebody Feed Phil during his trip to Ireland, so we’ve been trying to fill the travel show-shaped hole in our lives with the likes of Anthony Bourdain: The Layover. But we’re still ravenous for a worthy successor.

However, we think we may have found the replacement we need in the form of Netflix’s newly released documentary series Dark Tourist.

New Zealand filmmaker David Farrier, who strikes us as a kind of Louis Theroux-lite, journeys into the shady world of “dark tourism”. While mainstream tourists are lounging on beaches and doing bicycle tours, dark tourists are exploring radioactive areas, war zones and the birthplaces of infamous serial killers.

While that all might sound a bit grim, the trailer for the eight-episode series shows a lighter side of dark tourism, it even seems kinda life-affirming…

That’s your viewing for this evening sorted.
