One Direction post on social media for first time in two years and the numbers are ridiculous

James Fenton

One Direction have ended their social media hiatus and judging by the interactions the boy band are getting, they have been very much missed.

Last week, One Direction revealed that they will be celebrating their 10-year anniversary with a special website launching on July 23, which is, of course *checks calendar*, tomorrow.

Ahead of the big day, the foursome have dusted off their social media passwords by taking to Twitter for the first time since 2018 with the words: ‘Tomorrow! You and me got a whole lot of history #10Yearsof1D’ accompanied by a black image with ’10 Years of One Direction emblazoned across it.

It seems like a fairly simple message but it’s sent Twitter into an absolute frenzy with over half a million retweets in just under two hours at the time of writing. At that speed, it could well end up near the top of the list of the most retweeted tweets of all time by the end of the day.

It’s the same story over on Instagram where it has over 2 million likes in the same timeframe. Now, it’s not saying much when Niall Horan can post a vague whinge about his beloved Derby County and still get tens of thousands of retweets from bemused followers…

At least he has something to look forward to tomorrow, as do millions of others around the world, evidently.
