Ireland’s dream acting pairing is set to become a reality as Paul Mescal and Saoirse Ronan team up to play a married couple in an upcoming sci-fi thriller.
Saoirse Ronan and Paul Mescal have been the darlings of the Irish acting world in recent years, with the former winning a Golden Globe for her role in Lady Bird and the latter nabbing a BAFTA for his Normal People turn just last week.
Hollywood is now doing the right thing and putting them both together for a big screen adaptation of Canadian writer Iain Reid’s novel Foe. The story follows a young married couple whose world is turned upside when one of them is selected to travel to a large space station orbiting earth.
LaKeith Stanfield will also star in the movie, with Gareth Davies directing. Davis told Deadline: “I’ve been on the hunt to do something in sci-fi, it was always on my bucket list, and also to find material I could make an actor’s piece with a Cassavetian level of performance.
“I read Foe and could not put it down. It’s incredibly suspenseful, very moving and dealt with sci-fi in a most grounded way that spoke to where we are heading as a society, with a lot of the questions we all have, explored in a profound way.”
