Paul Mescal shares thoughtful gift given to him by one of his Normal People co-stars

James Fenton

It’s spring 2020, The Weeknd is top of the charts with Blinding Lights, TV audiences are obsessed with Normal People, oh and a global pandemic is still in the early stages of wreaking havoc across the world.

The was a time in the middle of last year when we couldn’t move without seeing Paul Mescal’s face on a webpage or on the front of a magazine. The Normal People star was catapulted to worldwide fame when he starred as the bashful Connell Waldron in the TV adaptation of Sally Rooney’s acclaimed novel. As Ireland coped with the first Covid-19 lockdown, the show provided some level of solace on those balmy spring nights.

Some of the initial hysteria has naturally died down while Mescal has been busy with other projects but his latest Instagram post shows how fondly he remembers his days on Normal People. Sharing a collection of photographs of himself and his co-stars, including Daisy Edgar-Jones (Marianne) and Fionn O’Shea (Jamie), Paul captioned the post ‘best present ever. Thank you so much @indiamullen. Miss you all a lot.

India played Marianne’s friend Peggy on the show and she’ll definitely go down in the good books for this thoughtful gift. If you somehow haven’t watched Normal People yet, you can catch every episode on the RTÉ Player.

Now all we need is a show for this lockdown to keep us equally as hooked as Normal People did although that might be a task too far.
