Lidl in Portrush, Co. Antrim was the scene of a bizarre dispute yesterday as a man brought his pet sheep on his shopping trip.
When confronted with store policy, the man pointed out that there was a rule about ‘no dogs’ but nothing had been said about ‘no sheep’.

While it appears most people saw the funny side, the incident soon turned ugly according to the Irish Times .
An onlooker said:
“It then took a turn for the worse because when the man got outside he grabbed a metal bar and tried to hit the security guard with it.
“The security guard put him on the ground and held him there, and the sheep just stood there watching. It was even letting a few baas.
“Eventually he calmed down and the security guard let him up and he just walked off through the car park, with the sheep walking ahead of him on the lead.
“It’s one of the most surreal things I’ve ever seen.”
The PSNI confirmed that a man was arrested on suspicion of a number of offences including common assault and disorderly behaviour.
