Yesterday’s Champions League qualifier between Linfield and Celtic was on the radar for security forces since it was announced a few weeks ago.
The Belfast side, who have a mostly Loyalist following, hosted the Glasgow giants who are famed for their vociferous Irish-Catholic support.
As expected the visitors emerged victorious, winning 2-0 in a relatively easy evening for them. Police will be relieved that the game passed without much trouble but there was one incident as Celtic’s Leigh Griffiths was targeted Linfield fans throwing missiles as he prepared to take a corner.
Among the objects thrown was a bottle of Buckfast which Griffiths picked up to his bemusement.

Bafflingly, the referee booked Griffiths for ‘time wasting’ as he tried to figure what to do with the bottle.
