It Seems Saoirse Ronan Learnt About Sex The Same Unique Way Every Irish Pupil Did

The thought of sitting down with your mother and father and discussing 'the birds and the bees' is the most awkward situation that either the talker or the talkee can ever, EVER be put in.

So, here in Ireland we just completely ignore it and look to other ways and means of finding out about the facts of life.

You know what we're talking about, the one in your class who had an older sibling who used to pass down the knowledge which would then be handed out at break times or on the bus (albeit rather badly).

As the famous Tommy Tiernan joke goes when they are all huddled around at small break in national school, "put it in cider? Can I not put it in 7Up instead?".

Well, it turns out superstar Saoirse Ronan may be different than the ordinary Irish person in many ways but like us all, she got her facts from the schoolyard.

But, unluckily for her, there was a price to pay...

She told The Irish Independent in an interview when asked about where she learned about sex for the first time that:

"I think we all got most of our info from like the one kid who who knew everything about sex somehow.

"We had a kid in our school and I remember he used to charge us like 20c so we could get information. This was when we were kids. He was like, 'If you want to know meet me in the basketball court and bring 20c with you. Otherwise I'm not telling you.'

"I don't know where he is now. I hope he's safe. I hope he's well."

A 20c well spent.
