A regular name amongst the nominees this awards season, Ronan has also been nominated for a Golden Globe and a Bafta so far this year.
No stranger to the Oscars, this marks her fourth nomination, previously acknowledged for her roles in Atonement, Brooklyn and Lady Bird respectively.
Ronan’s fellow nominees in the best actress category include Cynthia Erivo, Scarlett Johansson, Charlize Theron and Renee Zellweger. All strong contenders no doubt.
Laura Dern and Florence Pugh, who co-starred with Saoirse on Little Women are also up for nominations, both in the running for best-supporting actress – Dern for Marriage Story and Pugh for her portrayal of Amy March in Little Women.
