‘So many memories’ – Niall Horan’s tribute to his One Direction days

Sarah Finnan

All eyes are on the One Direction boys (Or should I say men? It has been a decade after all.) for their 10th-anniversary celebrations.

For anyone who doesn’t know, One Direction are celebrating their 10th birthday today. Yes, 10 whole years have passed since Liam, Harry, Niall, Louis and Zayn sauntered onto the X Factor stage and proved that they were more than just five fresh-faced buckos who could hold a tune.

Ending their social media hiatus for the first time in two years yesterday, the band tweeted a countdown reminder to fans saying “Tomorrow! You and me got a whole lot of history.” As if directioners actually needed to be reminded of the occasion.

Also marking the big day with his own tribute, Nialler shared a photo of the lads back in their heyday to his Instagram, writing:

“When I met these four gents there was no way I thought we would go on to do what we did. So many unbelievable memories we shared together. We felt the adoration of millions from around the planet on a daily basis and it was mind blowing. It’s such a major part of our lives and always will be. Cheers to US today boys and thank you to all you beautiful people who have supported us over the last 10 years. @liampayne @harrystyles @zayn @louist91 ❤️ #10yearsofonedirection.”

Several of Nialler’s former One Direction bandmates have posted their own tributes today as well, including Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson. Still waiting on Hazza and Zayn, not that I’ve been regularly checking their social media or anything…

If you’re in need of a laugh though, might I recommend watching the below tribute from Jack Whitehall. Keep an eye out for Lizzo downing Harry’s drink at the Brit Awards – a truly iconic moment in pop culture history.

#10YearsOf1D Very emotional today, I can’t believe it’s been 10 years of us as a band. 10 years since Simon Cowell called me up and said ‘Jack these young scamps need a wise head to join the gang, someone with street smarts to keep them on the straight and narrow’ i said ‘Simon, I’m in’. So many happy memories, meeting my hero Dermot O’Leary on the X Factor, the stadium gigs, top and tailing with Liam during those cold nights on the tour bus, putting H’s hair into pig tails for shits and giggles. So many larks. People always ask me (@niallhoran) will we ever get back together? Never say never. We’ve been through a lot, highs and lows (Harolds drinking problem at the Brits) but we remain best friends and that’s the most important thing. Was going to post this video on our what’s app group but there must be some kind of technical issue as my messages keep bouncing and it says none of the numbers are still in use. @onedirection #squadgoals #10years #onedirection
