These are the best new Netflix original shows and movies coming in October

Rory Cashin

We’re spoiled for choice in the next few weeks.

October is upon us, which means worse weather, but also Halloween!

Netflix will help on both counts, giving us lots of reasons to be happy to be inside away from the cold, and there is also quite a few scary movies and shows arriving in time for the spooky season.

They have told subscribers to expect lots of classic movies throughout October, including About Time, American Gangster, Apollo 13, Corpse Bride, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Gangster Squad, Notting Hill, several of the Paranormal Activity movies, Rampage, Ready Player One, Super 8, the Bourne Collection, and The Conjuring.

But in terms of their own original content, here are the highlights you can expect to see throughout the month.

TV SHOWS

Song Exploder – Friday October 2

Based on the hit podcast series, this will see famous musicians sit down and discuss the stories behind the biggest songs and albums of their careers. This season will include interviews with Alicia Keys, Lin-Manuel Miranda, R.E.M., and Ty Dolla $ign.

Emily In Paris – Friday October 2

The new show from the creator of Sex & The City and Melrose Place finds a young woman travel to Paris for her dream job, totally upending her life in the process. You can check out the trailer right here.

The Haunting Of Bly Manor – Friday October 9

The sorta-sequel to the hit show The Haunting Of Hill House sees the same director and cast reuniting, but for a totally different classic horror story. Check out the creepy trailer right here.

Star Trek: Discovery Season 3 – Friday October 16

Truly going where no crew has gone before, as the end of the second season revealed that (SPOILERS!) they’ve been shot forward 930 years into the future.

Unsolved Mysteries Season 2 – Monday October 19

Six new episodes from renewed and revamped show revolving around mysteriously unsolved cases, telling true stories of murders, missing people, and unexplained phenomena.

The Queen’s Gambit – Friday October 23

Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch, Split) stars in the true story of a young chess genius in 1950s America, and becomes both a hit and an outcast in the male dominated world of competitive chess. Might sound a bit stuffy, but comes from the writer of Logan, Out Of Sight, and Minority Report, so likely to be not stuffy at all.

Hubie Halloween – Wednesday October 7

Adam Sandler plays a local loser who makes sure nobody causes any trouble on Halloween. But when an escaped criminal winds up in his town, it is up to him to save the day. A Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting – Thursday October 15

In what sounds like it might not be a million miles away from Buffy The Vampire Slayer, this is based on the first in the series of hit novels about an international group of teenage babysitters who are assigned in protecting the lives of others from monsters.

The Trial Of The Chicago 7 – Friday October 16
