This year’s Toy Show will be “like something you’ve never seen before”

James Fenton

It’s just over 160 days until Christmas which is around about the same length of time that has passed since the term ‘coronavirus’ started to gain a bit of traction here in Ireland.

Basically, we’re about the length of a lockdown away from Santa coming down the chimney with his big red hat and tinsel-covered face mask. Before that though, we’ll have the Late Late Toy Show to enjoy and judging by what Ryan Tubridy has been saying today, it’s going to be bigger and better than ever.

Speaking on The Ryan Tubridy Show on RTE Radio One this morning, the Toy Show host said: “The Toy Show 2020, it’s happening. It’s going to be arguably the most remarkable Toy Show we have ever put together.”

God knows, don’t we deserve it after the year we’ve had? Tubs continued: “It’s going to be like something you’ve never heard or seen before. You won’t be able to even guess because I was onto the North Pole, I don’t have a direct line to your man, but I do have contacts with the diplomatic corps and the Big Man is getting very excited about having to Covid his way through Christmas.”

Like the rest of us, Santa is having to get used to a new way of living and working, as Ryan explained: “There are regulations in place this year and he made contact to say make sure the Long Fella, as he calls me, in Ireland does that show because those children need it more than ever because they deserve some sunshine in their lives.”

He concluded by saying that more details will be revealed in November but for now we can make do with this Sunday’s Toy Show special which will air on RTE One. You can read more about that here.

2020, it’s been eventful but we’ll definitely be happy to ring in Christmas and the New Year. No offence.
