There is always a bit of a dilemma worldwide surrounding when is the right time to start playing Christmas songs but if you’re Irish, you’re very lucky because you have a very specific rule of thumb that you should follow.
The word legend is thrown around willy-nilly in this day and age but when you’re talking about RTÉ DJ, Larry Gogan, the description fits perfectly.
Gogan has been playing the first Christmas song on the RTÉ 2FM radio station since 1980 and was on hand to head into the office to pick a song for the radio’s breakfast show ‘Breakfast Republic’.
It’s like turning on the Christmas lights, you can’t give the responsibility to just anyone.
He picked ‘All I Want For Christmas’ by Mariah Carey as the opener for the festive season… a song that splits the nation.
You can listen to the veteran pressing play on SoundCloud.
With The Late Late Toy Show on tonight as well, ladies and gentlemen, we are currently entering full Christmas flight mode.
And there it is!!
Larry is playing @MariahCarey ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ as his first Christmas song ????
Happy National Larry Gogan Day ????????https://t.co/iZhnqHEsZq
