PIC: Here’s What The Unseen Bird Box Creatures Actually Looked Like

Kiara Keane

Bird Box has been a huge success ever since it dropped on Netflix over Christmas and it’s shaping up to be one of the most talked-about films of the year.

It stars Sandra Bullock as a woman fighting for survival when mysterious creatures cause people who look at them to commit suicide – and as a result she is forced to navigate an incredibly dangerous journey while blindfolded.

One of the most unnerving things about the film is that you never actually get to see what these creatures look like, and the cast maintain there’s a very important reason for this.

Bullock explained in a recent interview, “It was snake-like, and I was like, ‘I don’t want to see it when it first happens. Just bring it into the room. We’ll shoot the scene.’

“I turn and he’s like this [growling at me]. It’s making me laugh. It was just a long fat baby.”

The creatures were inevitably cut for being too “funny” but the team who worked on the special effects for the film have now revealed photos of what they were going to look like.

Designer Howard Berger explained, “Keep in mind, the fatal ‘vision’ that each character saw would most likely be different for each person (you’ll understand if you’ve seen the film), and this makeup appeared in a cut ‘dream/nightmare sequence’ with Sandra Bullock’s character.”

He added, “I actually really liked the movie and think it was better off NOT showing the makeup. Kudos to the director for sticking to her guns on that one.”
