WATCH: Ireland Manager Involved in Hugely Awkward Slagging Match On ITV

James Fenton

The 2018 World Cup has very much been characterised by funny punditry moments as much as it has been for any action on the pitch.

With RTÉ, BBC and ITV all boasting a stellar line-up of former players and managers, the opportunity for a bit of ego-bashing is never too far away, with Roy Keane even talking about “ripping the head” off a former colleague at one point.

Our very own Martin O’Neill, manager of the Republic Of Ireland, was the victim of one such dig last night as his Croatian colleague Slaven Bilic didn’t hold back on the insults.

He even had a bit of a go at Ireland by saying Croatia, who had just beaten Denmark to qualify for the quarter-finals, “has better football players”, a comment which left poor Martin lost for words. Take a look below.

In fairness to Martin, he did verbally destroy two of the biggest names in world football in Patrick Vieira and Fabio Cannavaro a few years back…

Let’s hope he has a similar comeback the next time he lines up beside Bilic.
