Nine Perfect Netflix Movies To Watch If You’re Not Leaving The House Tonight

Sarah

You’re not leaving the house tonight and there’s no way you’re getting up off the sofa for anything. And that’s FINE.

But what’s not fine is having to go through the agony of choosing what to watch on Netflix.

Seriously, is there anything more difficult? It’s torn families apart quicker than a game of Monopoly, and to anyone in a new relationship who has had to bear the burden of being in charge of the remote – we feel your pain.

So to take to stress out of your evening and reduce your back-to-work fear, we’ve rounded up a list of what you should be watching tonight.

1. Before I Wake

This freaky flick will appeal to fans of creepy kids in horror movies. A couple who are devastated at the death of their son foster 8-year-old Cody who it soon turns out has nightmares which manifest themselves into reality.

Spooky or what?

2. The Discovery

The sci-fi romance stars Rooney Mara, Jason Segel and Robert Redford, and is set in a world where the existence of the afterlife has been discovered by scientist Dr Harbor.

This revelation immediately sets off mass suicide by people anxious to get to the other side in the hopes of being happy there. Others continue on, trying to decide what it all means.

3. The Guest

If you haven’t seen this, you must watch it. If you liked Drive with Ryan Gosling, this has a similar vibe: it’s all very cool, with a stellar soundtrack.

The story begins with a soldier (Dan Stevens) as he introduces himself to the Peterson family, claiming to be a friend of their son who died in action. The polite young man is invited into the family’s home, where he starts to make life better for all involved. But, of course, it turns out there’s more to this guest than meets the eye…

4. The Mist

Based on a story by Stephen King, Spike’s THE MIST centers around a small town family that is torn apart by a brutal crime.

As they deal with the fallout an eerie mist rolls in, suddenly cutting them off from the rest of the world and, in some cases, each other. Family, friends and adversaries become strange bedfellows, battling the mysterious mist and its threats, fighting to maintain morality and sanity as the rules of society break down.

5. Obvious Child

Now for something on the funny side.  While going through a pretty shitty period in her life, what with her boyfriend cheating on her with her best friend, New York comedian Donna (Jenny Slate) has a one night stand and later discovers that she’s pregnant.

She doesn’t know if she should have the child or tell the father she’s pregnant…  Sounds serious, but it’s weirdly hilarious.

6. What We Do In The Shadows

More comedy, this time from New Zealand. Coming from the same hilarious Kiwis who brought the world Flight Of The Conchords, the movie is a mocumentary about four vampires living in a flatshare situation as they prepare for the annual unholy masquerade ball… which is the highlight of the undead’s social calender.

If you like Flight Of The Conchords, you’ll eat this up.

7. The Fundamentals Of Caring

We love anything with Paul Rudd in it and The Fundamentals Of Caring is no exception.

Starring the gorge Selena Gomez and Craig Roberts you’ll be in both tears and stitches watching this.

The plot is centred around a writer (Rudd) who takes a teenager in a wheelchair (Roberts) on a road trip – it’s amazing. Trust us.

8. The Do-Over

This only got 5.8 on IMDB.com, which means I either have shite taste or am easily-amused because I genuinely thought this was gas.

If you’re willing to take my word for it, or you just really like Adam Sandler, then I think you’ll enjoy this comedy about two lads who fake their own deaths, take on new identities and get themselves in a heap of shit. Been there, done that.

9. Locke

Fancy watching a thriller that’s essentially just Tom Hardy sitting in a car for an hour and a half having very tense phone conversations while driving? In that case, Locke is for you.

Ivan Locke, a dedicated family man and successful construction manager receives a phone call on the eve of the biggest challenge of his career that sets in motion a series of events that threaten to destroy his entire life.

An extremely gripping watch.

10. Blue Jay

Former high school sweethearts Jim and Amanda have been out of touch for more than 20 years — but they run into each other at a grocery store back in their alpine hometown, and then they get to talking, first over coffee, then over beer and jellybeans.

Before they know it they’re at Jim’s mother’s house, where everything sends them spiraling back into the past. This will have you bawling.

Now all you have to do is wrap yourself up in a blankie, and press play.
