One Of The Simpsons’ Most Popular Characters Is Being Dropped From The Show

One of the most popular original Simpsons characters is apparently going to be dropped from the show following recent controversy.

IndieWire has published an interview with one of the show’s producers Adi Shankar, in which he says they’re going to get rid of Apu’s character.

He confirmed they’ve been working on a solution to the ‘Apu problem’ in a new script after recent claims that his character is an ‘inaccurate and hurtful portrayal of Indian-Americans’.

Shankar said, “I got some disheartening news back, that I’ve verified from multiple sources now: They’re going to drop the Apu character altogether.

“They aren’t going to make a big deal out of it, or anything like that, but they’ll drop him altogether just to avoid the controversy.”

The convenience store owner’s character is voiced by Hank Azaria, who previously said he’s “perfectly willing and happy to step aside or help transition it into something new”.
