Game Of Thrones Prequel Has Started Filming In Northern Ireland

Great news for anyone who’s seriously missing Game of Thrones since the finale aired in May.

An as-yet untitled prequel to the HBO show has now started filming at a number of locations around Northern Ireland in recent weeks.

The Belfast Telegraph reports that filming took place at a secret location in Co. Down and on the north coast last week.

As well as that, Titanic Studios in Belfast has also been set up for filming the series.

Set 5,000 years before the events of the current GoT series, it focuses on the Children of the Forest, the original inhabitants of Westeros.

Most of the finer details are still under wraps, though it was revealed that the show would document the ‘horrifying secrets of Westeros’s history to the true origin of the White Walkers’.

The official synopsis reads, ‘Taking place thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series chronicles the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour.

‘And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the White Walkers, the mysteries of the East, to the Starks of legend … it’s not the story we think we know.’

George RR Martin told Entertainment Weekly back in November, “Westeros is a very different place. There’s no King’s Landing. There’s no Iron Throne.

“There are no Targaryens — Valyria has hardly begun to rise yet with its dragons and the great empire that it built. We’re dealing with a different and older world and hopefully that will be part of the fun of the series.”
