It looks like someone may have got to the bottom of those mysterious Irish UFO sightings.
Earlier this week a story about multiple UFO sightings off the coast of Ireland went viral and caused a fair amount of confusion around the country.
A number of planes had reported a sighting of a ‘UFO’ off the southwest coast, sparking an investigation by the Irish Aviation Authority which is still underway.
Last week the pilot of a British Airways flight off the coast of Kerry asked Shannon Air Traffic Control if there were any military exercises going on in the area as they had seen something in the sky – but there were none.
Shannon air traffic control confirmed that “other aircraft in the air have also reported the same thing so we are going to have a look and see”.
Now an expert has weighed in on the bizarre sightings to put all our minds at ease because they were probably meteorites and nothing more sinister.
Aviation journalist Gerry Byrne told the Irish Examiner, “In all probability they were meteorites and it’s not uncommon for meteorites to come in at a low angle, a low trajectory into the Earth’s atmosphere.”
Very interesting report on Shannon high level Friday 9 November at 0630z with multiple aircraft with reported sightings of a UFO over County Kerry. Skip to 17 minutes to listen reports on @liveatc https://t.co/VP1p0hrScn #Aviation #UFO #Ireland
