Virgin Media confirms that several Goggleboxers will be missing due to new restrictions

James Fenton

In a week where Ireland entered Level 5 Covid-19 restrictions, it will be comforting for many to know that we still have Gogglebox Ireland to look forward during these lockdown nights.

Well, for the next two weeks only as, sadly, Gogglebox Ireland wraps up for the winter next week. Why would they leave us in our hour of need? Anyway, we’ll be getting used to not seeing some of our favourite Goggleboxers during this week’s episode as new restrictions on house visits mean that some regulars won’t be taking part.

Virgin Media has confirmed that David and John in Ranelagh won’t be participating this week and that we’ll be seeing less of the Cabra girls. It gets even worse for next week’s final episode when we will be without Barbara and Janet in Donegal, Tracie and Anita in The Liberties, and the Tully twins in Cavan. As well as that, the Cabra girls will be reduced to just Gráinne and Ashley while the Lucan newcomers Lariche and Gary will be without Lariche’s brothers Gilmar and Blair.

Commenting on the changes, Gogglebox Ireland producer David Noble said: “It’s such a shame that we have to tweak the cast so close to the end of the series. They will be missed but we are delighted that this show can be kept on the road for two more weeks and more than confident that our remaining cast will deliver the usual hour of midweek joy that is Gogglebox Ireland.”

Let’s hope there’s a new series in 2021 when all this is behind us. In the meantime, Gogglebox Ireland is looking for Irish people abroad to take part in a Christmas special this year. If you’re interested, you can find out more via this link.
