After a 2020 edition that saw loads of brilliant kids appear on our screens, we now have an update from the original Prince of the Toy Show – JohnJoe Brennan.
A prince no more, JohnJoe is now 19 and studying law in Paris, where he’s taken time out to wish us all a Merry Christmas and to give his granny’s antique shop a shout out. 11 years after he melted the nation with his love for horology, JohnJoe has appeared in a video that was shared on Time Pieces Roscommon Instagram page.
In it, JohnJoe expresses his relief that that lockdown in Ireland, which he says has been a “trying and frustrating” period for us all, is coming to an end. He goes on to say that his grandparents’ shop will be opening next Wednesday and they’re very much looking forward to welcoming their customers back.
In an age when its so important to support small Irish businesses, JohnJoe raises a good point and you can watch his message in full below…

We think we speak for the nation when we say Happy Christmas to you too, JohnJoe and we hope you can travel home to visit us soon. With JohnJoe all grown up now, his Toy Show crown was taken by young Adam King last week and the Cork lad appeared on the Late Late show again last night, melting the hearts of the nation for a second time. You can catch up with his video chat with his astronaut hero Chris Hadfield here.
What’s that? More Toy Show content? Oh, go on then. For old time’s sake (no pun intended), here’s THAT clip of JohnJoe from the 2009 edition…
Toy Shows heroes of past and present. We’re are being truly spoiled this week.
