Which Irish celeb should take over as host of Love Island?

Katy Thornton

We’ve got a fair few suggestions, including a twin duo, a political party leader, and a former contestant…

News spread this morning that Laura Whitmore had officially stepped down from the Love Island hosting podium, citing “the format, including flying back and forth to South Africa” as one of the main reasons for her decision. Whitmore also said that filming would interfere with “conflicting projects“.

So that leaves space for a new Love Island host, and much as we’d dig if Ms Ekin-Su got the job, we’d also love for it to go to another Irish celeb.

So we’ve put together a list of our top picks for the new Love Island host (ITV, take note).

Jedward

Let’s not be sexist, who says men can’t host Love Island? Especially an iconic pair like Jedward? Have you seen their social media presence lately? We think they’d do a stellar job.

Mary Lou McDonald

I’m mostly kidding about this… mostly. I mean S6 contestant Shaughna Phillips said she was “an absolute delight” so…

Nicola Coughlan

Not only is she a Love Island super fan, but she’s got the wit to go with the hosting job. Given her very busy schedule (Nicola Coughlan will be the main focus of Bridgerton’s third season) we doubt she’ll be able to take up the mantle, but this list of nominees would not be complete without her.

Graham Norton

Look, he’s already one of the best presenters around. If he had the time, I know Graham Norton would do an incredible job as the Love Island host.

Joanne McNally

This woman made the normally quite drab Aftersun show actually a little bit funny. While not many in the audience got her humour (her comparing Adam and Paige’s chemistry to two wheelie bins had me howling at least), I think Joanne McNally is the perfect person to take over the hosting duties. Although that would be a lot of cancelled comedy shows, so unfortunately we think it’s unlikely she’ll be in the running.

Nadine Coyle

Whether she has any interest in Love Island or not, that Derry accent is incredibly soothing (in my humble opinion) and I’d personally pay good money to see her handle the Casa Amor recoupling.

Maura Higgins

I’m not going to lie, Maura Higgins is absolutely my top pick. This woman walked so Ekin-Su could run, and we think she’d do the job justice. Calls for Maura Higgins to become the newest Love Island host have been heard ever since she came 4th (a travesty) (but definitely because of who she was coupled up with) in Season 5. Known as one of the most iconic seasons of Love Island to date, with Maura’s “fanny flutter” phrases and confrontations one of the main reasons for this, we will never stop asking for her to take over.

You also know she’d absolutely go in on the lads returning from Casa Amor.

Do you agree with our picks for which Irish celeb should take over Love Island hosting duties? We’d love to hear your thoughts. Now is the time to shout your nominees from the rooftops.
