Wild Mountain Thyme is available to watch in Ireland from this weekend

James Fenton

It was the movie trailer that stopped Ireland in its tracks back in November and you will be able to watch Wild Mountain Thyme in full from this weekend.

In a year of terrible things, the Wild Mountain Thyme trailer probably wouldn’t even rank that highly in a list of terrible things that happened in 2020. However, despite giving us plenty of laughs, it was memorable for just how awful it was – as detailed by Lovin’s Rory Cashin here.

While the accents were much-maligned, that was just the tip of the iceberg as Ireland was portrayed (not for the first time to be fair) as some backwater filled with simpletons in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Anyway, if you feel like give the whole thing an ironic hate-watch, the movie will be available to rent from digital retailers such as Amazon Prime Video, Google Play and Apple TV from Friday, April 30.

If you’re actually interested in the plot, it stars Emily Blunt and Jamie Dornan (et tu, Jamie?) and is based around ‘conflicts in an Irish family arise when the patriarch threatens to hand over their farm to an American nephew instead of his own son.’ Quite.

We’re looking forward to reading all of your reviews over the coming days.
