Yes that was Saoirse Ronan at the PSG match last night

James Fenton

Saoirse Ronan is busy promoting her upcoming movie Little Women but took some time out to watch Paris Saint-Germain take on Galatasaray in the Champions League last night.

The Carlow actress was joined in the French capital by co-stars Florence Pugh and Timothée Chalamet, as well as the movie’s director Greta Gerwig, to see the home side dismantle their Turkish opposition 5-0.

Ronan’s star has risen rapidly in recent years and that was evident as PSG rolled out the red carpet for her and the rest of the Little Women team, as well as French actor Stéphane Bak.

The gang picked a good night to attend the Parc Des Princes as goals from Marco Icardi, Pablo Sarabia, Neymar, Killian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani put the gloss on a successful group stage campaign for PSG. The Ligue 1 champions will now compete in the Champions League last 16 for the seventh consecutive year, as they continue to hunt down the prize their billionaire owners most covet.

Saoirse Ronan and her pals certainly seemed to enjoy themselves, with Florence Pugh sharing a video of the PSG supporters in full voice to her Instagram Stories. In the clip, she can be heard commenting to Chalamet about how one section of the stadium seemed to be more lively than others, an observation that won’t be lost on anyone that has ever visited the Parc Des Princes.

Little Women is due for release in Ireland on St. Stephen’s Day and Saoirse Ronan has already been nominated for a Golden Globe for her role in the film. She plays Jo March, alongside Pugh as Amy March and Chalamet as Theodore Laurence. It is Ronan’s second collaboration with Gerwig after 2017’s Lady Bird, a movie which saw her win the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy.

The question is, will Saoirse Ronan win an Oscar before PSG take home the Champions League trophy? Only time will tell.
