Following a string of incidents whereby staff members have suffered abuse from customers, Rye River Café are putting their foot down.

Things have been difficult for this Kildare café as of late. After only posting earlier in the month about staff shortages due to holidays and sick leave, Rye River Café in Kilcock have had to post a warning on their socials about what they will and won’t tolerate on their premises.

On the 7th August they posted that given the busy period, and having staff members away, they’ve had to restrict certain menu items. Rye River Café said this in their caption:

Most are understanding but some incidents lately have been uncalled for, including some customers being rude and aggressive towards staff members which won’t be tolerated.”

Unfortunately the Kildare café had to post again saying that they will not tolerate “physical or verbal abuse.” While they don’t disclose the specifics of what led to this second post, they did say this:

On 3 occasions this week we have had to defend our procedures and the way we do business to members of the public that thought they knew better.”

One of the points they made when it came to verbal abuse was this:

Threats or any type of verbal abuse will not be tolerated. If you would like to know what’s acceptable, imagine your speaking to your daughter in her first job and decide if it’s appropriate.”

The Kildare café went on to say that 99.9% of their customers are amazing but the “tiny percentage that make our day unbearable and leave our staff in tears ruin it for the majority.”

We can only imagine what occurred to push them to this point; we hope that this is the end of the abuse for Rye River Café.
